Hiatus has officially ended! I posted new art today and I looked back--I announced that break way back in early October. I'm not finished with my lessons, but I'm at a good point and have improved a little bit, thanks to good ol' Preston Blair. A little goes a long way with that course and even though I'm nowhere near the end, I feel more coodinated when I sit down and apply pencil (or pen tab) to paper. I have a better sense of proportion and volume too. Still have loads to learn but I'm enjoying the process!
Well right now, I'm busy drawing gift art for family for Christmas and I'll post them here as I finish them. The most fun is one I'm doing for my brother-in-law, Ken. You see he went to Disneyland last summer and asked a Disney artist to please draw him a pose of Tigger holding a Scotch! But Tigger with booze is quite 'off model' and the artist couldn't comply. So what did I do? I rented 'The Tigger Movie' for reference and have been learning to draw the bouncy cutie. Other family members will get pics of their pets and so forth.
Merry Christmas!

First of all, for everyone taking the time to visit either this page or to comment on a deviant; thank you very much! Even if what you saw turned you off, I appreciate you giving my art a look. I do keep an eye on who visits my page and try to return the favor, even if I don't watch or fav anything.
Why all the Lucius pics?
I imagine people less enthused about the whole Harry Potter phenomenon must shake their heads when they accidentally come my way, but I can explain. Kind of. Give me a minute, k?
OK, I'm ready.
I liked the books and movies. Liked. Not loved. But I happened to rent Chamber of Secrets for a second time about a year back and noticed Jason Isaacs. Noticed as in 'God DAMN, what a fine piece of ass!'
Sometime after Isaacs grabbed my eyeballs and libido, I ran across an article that tried to paint Lucius as almost Snape-like. That is, a clever plant, there to bring down Voldy's regime from the inside through a series of convincing 'mistakes' on Lucius's part. That was stretching it a bit for me, but I wound up re reading all the books and from then on I was hooked completely. Now how this ties into the art is Lucius as a source of inspiration. Everyone has something. Something that drives the urge to keep drawing/painting or whatever and I use my cartoon-like drawings as a measure of my own progress. I have humorous scenareos locked in my nutty brain and every time I draw, I get a little closer to being able to draw the more difficult ones, the ones I feel will be the most entertaining to my fellow Lucius lovers out there. (There's quite a few, too!)
I say use what inspires you!
As I write this thing, I'm also taking advantage of a treasure. If any of you enjoy the cartoon medium, you'll appreciate how thrilling it was to find an online animation course headed up by one of the creative geniuses (or 'crazy bastards' depending on your POV) who brought us the famous 'Ren and Stimpy.' I guess he's taken to collecting cartoon memorabilia of all kinds and he posted pages from Preston Blair's Animation Course, written back in the '40's. You can go to the site and learn more and maybe you'll want to do what I'm doing, and go through the lessons in there. Good stuff!
The lessons themselves I'll be posting in my own LiveJournal and you just would not believe how difficult drawing 'egg faces' really is. I had an easier time drawing hands in charcoal!
That brings up something else; how I use Deviant Art. For one thing, I don't post everything in here. If you look in scraps, I have a couple things stored in there at most. Everything else I post in LJ, so you will really only see my finished stuff here, the pieces I take the time to color. Sketches, art lessons, practice--as well as the finished products--all go in LJ along with whatever riveting tidbit I can dream up to torment my flist with.
Also, I tend not to emote too heavily in LJ. I keep it fairly light. I figure it's bad enough my hubby has to hear me when I feel a Drama Queen moment coming on--I don't need to share it with the world!
Oh and that pic up top, in the header? Yup, that's me with the beer. In about 1968. I'm old.

I decided to treat these DA journals more like an intro anyhow--after all I've already got the LJ for the daily crap. I'm kind of thinking about a DA ID now. Not sure what I want to draw for that yet.

Its so true about Lucius in COS - I paid no attention at all to HP until I discovered Lucius - I'm totally with you on the sexy long-blonde haired man-Gods
Then I saw Jason as Captain Hook and it was ALL OVER
I can't wait to make your plushie

As far as Isaacs, it was OVER with me once I saw him in The Patriot. I really don't remember what Mel Gibson was doing. It didn't matter.
